Looking for a place where your holiday enthusiasm can boast free without the anti-spirited downers? Longwood Gardens presents A Longwood Christmas, held from late November to early January every year. It is about a one hour drive from Arcadia University’s campus and offers free parking for guests. Student tickets range from $10 to $13, depending on which day you visit.
As described by the wonderful makers of Longwood Gardens, the grand landscape is where “garden design, horticulture, education, and the arts interplay to inspire and enlighten” their guests.
The vast area of grounds takes visitors on an extensive journey filled with ooh’s and ahh’s as they marvel at the bright lights glistening throughout the bare branched trees. Ponds are accentuated with dazzling Christmas themed lights, with greens and reds sparkling along the surface of the water.
The fields aren’t the only beauty this place has to offer. As the holiday getaway used to be home to entrepreneur Pierre S. du Pont, guests are taken on an adventure through the history of his house, as well as his state-of-the-art greenhouse, where flowers of all kinds line fountains of spewing water and pathways that lead through vine covered arches.
Don’t worry about the cold weather. Just bundle up and enjoy a cup of delicious hot chocolate and a cupcake at one of the stands that sit along the pathways. If you really want to make a night of it, dine at the fine onsite restaurant, but be sure to make reservations.
The display is quite the scene, especially when attending at night underneath the gleaming stars. However, if you happen to miss this year’s holiday presentation, you can still enjoy the spectacle of Longwood Gardens all year round with tons of blooming flowers.
